I have a order for a christmas cake to make for a customer. She has requested a cake that looks like a wreath. She wants to use it as the center piece for her dinning room table on christmas. Does anyone have any ideas of how i should go about decorating it to make it as realistic as possible. Im stumpped on this one
Thanks in advance, Niki ![]()
Are you using buttercream icing? Then you probably want to make your needles with a 233 (smaller) or 234 tip.
Fondant holly leaves and berries, fondant/gumpaste (50/50) bow, royal icing to tip the needles (snow), lots of cake glitter and sparkles.
Ornaments made of white chocolate clay, brushed or painted with luster dust.

You could bake the cake in a Bundt or Angel food cake pan. Make icing leaves and roll red fondant balls into Holly berries, and make or buy a red Poinsettia, or ribbon and bow for the top of the wreath. You could also make Pinecones. One fun way of making them edible is to hand mold an oval the size of an egg, of marzipan or chocolate clay, stud it with thin sliced blanched almonds, stick a bamboo skewer in the end of the cone, then dip the whole thing into melted semisweet chocolate.
I like the cupcake wreath idea alot, but if your client is looking for a more "traditional" cake, I found a great one in the galleries. Here's the link http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=coppermine&file=displayimage&meta=search&search=wreath&cat=0&pos=51&search=wreath
I am making a wreath cake right now. I have used a round bundt pan for the cake.
It will have fondant holly leaves, gold lustre balls, burgandy roses trim with gold dust and a bow when I finish.
Good luck with yours.

Shirley what a wonderful idea for making a pinecone. I bet they look wonderful and taste yummy. Now I have to try making them.
