Hi,
The only one I've actually made so far was made from plywood. My huband cut the square shaped I wanted then made a 2" tall platform out of wood to set the plywood on. He nailed it all together and I covered the whole thing is white contact paper. Then I can cover it with various other types of foil or paper to make it pretty.

When I made my last bridal shower cake, I needed a stand ffor some cupcakes. I found some clear glass plates at Walmart. Immediately under them on the shelf were some sundae glasses. I turned the sundae glasses upside down and placed the plate on top. Instant cupcake or cake stand. I stacked two on top of each other and used it for the cupcake stand at the shower. I also found some candles stick holders at Dollar Tree that I could group together to hold a glass plate. I will attach a picture of the stand so you can see what I mean. The first one only cost me $2.00 to make. The second one cost me $4.00 to make. You could also use a cake drum instead of a glass plate for a temporary cake stand.

If you want to see it in action, look at the cupcake tower picture in my photos.
It worked so well and served the purpose inexpensively,

My DH bought some 2 inch thick wood and put little legs on the bottom so that we could grab the stand from under. I usually just cover the stand in fancy foil if the bride doesn't bring a cake stand or use one of my Wilton ones.

I could take some pictures and link them here if you like. They are all square and I have a 16", 12" and 10". I prefer this way because if it's not returned, I'm not out a $100 Wilton stand. I will charge for materials and labor in the contract if a bride does not return the stand.
