I thought of trying a RI monogram on the side of a cake. But if I create this on wax paper and transfer, won't it stick up on the sides of the cake since the cake is slightly rounder? What do you all do?
Thinking of just piping directly on the cake with buttercream instead. (10" middle tier). TIA!
So has anyone made RI monogram on the side of a cake? Or do you all pipe directly onto cake with buttercream? I searched the forums for this and read about others transferring RI, but it seems since the cake slightly round, the transfer wouldn't touch the cake on the ends.
hmmm. OK. I was thinking that the RI would drip before it dried but that's why we use it,.. 'cause it dries fast. All right. I think the plastic wrap will protect me some (more) against breakage. I'll practice!
Does it have to be RI? Could you do the initials in gumpaste and lay them on the side of the pan so they would curve the correct amount? I did this once and taped my two pans (with the bottoms together), then formed my initials in gumpaste and put them on waxed paper. Then I propped the pans up and taped the waxed paper with the initials on them to the edge of the pans to let the gumpaste dry. Then I brushed them with pearl dust...they were beautiful!!
Ooh! ooh! DianeLM I AM using scrollwork per her request, too! Wow, I'll have to think about that. And WarEagle, I was thinking of buying the new Wilton Pearl Dust I saw at HL last week, but only to the previously thought idea of doing the scrollwork (and leaves) in buttercream and applying the pearl dust to that after it crusted. But the RI might be better for using pearl dust according to stuff I've read here. I'm a course II grad and have never used gum paste. But I will definitely consider that now thanks to your (both) input. Thanks!
HAGD!
