A potential customer wants a large bow on the top of her wedding cake (covered in BC) but doesn't want fondant. She wants it to look like a Tiffany bow. Is there anything I could use that wouldn't get shortening stains on it?? icon_rolleyes.gif

Don't know- wish you could convince her to do fondant....a big fabric bow seems out of place to me on a cake.

Wilton has a big artifical bow that looks like a big fondant bow...I bought one at Michael's once when I didn't have time to make the fondant bow, but needed the look. The Wilton bow is apparently dyeable...I haven't tried that though!

I just looked up the bow and it's $25. It has a lot of loops and the bride wants a Tiffany bow. *sigh* Will a fondant bow hold up or will it get droopy after sitting on the BC for a few hours?

you would definately need to use gumpaste. It will be stronger, thinner/more delicate looking and will hold up just fine on buttercream.

OK, gumpaste is. There are no other options, right? I'm not exactly sure what the bride wants the bow to look like yet b/c I've only spoken with her mom so far, but what would be a reasonable fee for a large bow?

When I was doing some research into what to charge, I noticed that the bakeries near me charged about $20-$30 for a bow topper.
