Hi everyone and Happy Thanksgiving.

Does anyone know of a good sugar cookie or any cookie really that would hold up well to make Christmas ornaments? I thought this would be fun for the kids and I to do but I'm not sure if a plain old sugar cookie would be the best or not. I want to be able to decorate them and then hang them on the tree probably with ribbon or something. Any ideas are appreciated.

Enjoy the rest of your turkey day.

You could use the No Fail Sugar Cookie recipe. If the recipe is not strong enough you could put the decorated cookies in poly or cellophane bags with curling ribbon tied to the bag and then hang them on the tree.

Hey that's a wonderful Idea!
I could make those and hang them in my cubicule at work.
Then whoever visits my cubicle gets a cookie for Christmas!

Use any cookie dough that is called "roll out". A sugar cookie may be too tender and while that makes a tasty cookie, you need something sturdier for the ornament.

I did that for home one year! I made small cookies, wrapped them as you said and hung them on a cut off bare tree branch that I stuck into a flower pot that was painted. I painted the tree branch white, and painted the flower pot to match the holiday. The branch was stuck in cement so I could take out the branch/cement and place branch into another decorated pot for the next holiday. Now I have one large bare tree and one small tabletop one. This is great for unexpected visitors that you just want them to take a 'little something' with them.

Wilton's cookie recipe is good for ornament cookies. Here is the page on what they recommend.
