I've dry dusted buttercream in the past without a problem. However, I have a groom's cake coming up and would like a special effect. I have thought about using a chocolate transfer and "marbling it" with silver (wedding colors cranberry and silver) but now I have another idea but don't know if it will work! Here goes!
Do you think it would work if I iced the groom's cake with buttercream and then "swirled in" silver luster dust paint (you know, dust mixed with lemon juice....I'm a teetoteler (sp?))!! Would the silver be absorbed by the buttercream? I've never had that problem with crusted buttercream and dry dust but when you chemically change the luster dust I don't know what will happen!
Any thoughts Any One?
Thanks
Beth from KY
I have painted on bc with luster dust mixed with vodka (so I am sure that lemon juice would work as well). I have done it on a few cakes (see Bob the Builder/Airplane cake in my photos). I am not sure about actually mixing it into the bc.
Good Luck
