UGH! Ok, so I made the mmf like they say in the article on the cc home page and it came out crumbly dry. I kneaded it until my wrists hurt, added some shortening, gave up icon_mad.gif and let it sit overnight.

Went at it again this morning, adding shortening b/c it was still dry and breaking apart... am I missing something here? What went wrong? icon_confused.gif I'm about to toss it all and just eat the cake myself!

Would like to try making mmf again but... Any help would be MUCH appreciated.

Did you add the entire 2 lbs of sugar? It sounds like there is too much sugar in it. I never add the entire amount. Usually 1 1/2 lbs is enough.

I have this problem when I add colour to the mmf...my white usually turns out great but when there is colour in it...it breaks apart and crumbles too!!

jdogga - I didn't put any coloring in it but I did put in vanilla

Any way to salvage this?

The best way to salvage it would be to add more crisco. If it never really comes together, you may just have to say " Lesson learned" and start over.

rats! Thanks Misdawn, I think that's the point I'm getting to. I just don't think my wrists can take much more.

Lesson Learned!

I don't know if this will help or not, but I microwave mine a tiny bit to soften it up to make it easier to work with. I have tendonitis and carpal tunnel syndrome, and there is no way I could knead that MMF without warming it a little to soften it up first!!

Toss it! You're out, what, $2? Start over!

I use full 16 oz bag marshmallows and half a bag of sugar give or take. No water, just vanilla and almond after it's melted before the sugar.
