Okay, they aren't human cookies but... my cousin, who owns a pet boutique here in CT, just approached me about making homemade dog biscuits to sell in her shop. She said that they are very popular but she just doesn't have the time to bake them (she works a full time job while getting her pet boutique going). Call me crazy but I'm very excited to do this!
Now I just have to look into the legal aspects of things.
I live in Tx and try to home cook for my 2 Poms, would you be interested in sharing the recipe for doggie biscuits so I can make them for my babies? Thank you and good luck and congrats.
I would love the recipe too! I have a very finicky golden who will spit out treats if they are not up to par. Very embarassing when a kind stranger offers him one out of kindness.
Sure Shaynamills! As soon as my cousin gives me her recipes, I will pass them along to you.
AAWWW thank you very much. My babies thank you as well. I'll look forward to it. ![]()

There are a few high-end pet boutiques in my area and one of them sells the cutest little petit fors! I thought they were for humans they were so fancy! I think it's a great avenue to look into as an addition to whatever else you are doing. As far as legalities, I visited a website just today that was for a local doggy bakery and they stated that they are licensed by our state's department of agriculture, so maybe check there for you state as well. Good to know someone is watching out for the four-legged dessert eaters too!
I make cookies for my puppy girl all the time - she loves them! I would love to have my own dog barkery! You can find some great recipes online but I'd recommend the Three Dog Bakery cookbooks. - they are really the pros! Remember - no sugar, no chocolate, no raisins!! Good luck to you!
I forgot - here are two sites with cute cutters:
this has just about ever breed out there;http://kitchengifts.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=KCI&Category_Code=dogs and this one has multi cutters for bones and dog houses, paws and hydrants...

I love making cookies for my dogs. These even smell good enough for us to eat (although I haven't mustered up the nerve to try yet).
Enjoy!
Here is the recipe I use for my fur babies' biscuits:
Makes about 5 dozen bone biscuits
1 cup flour
1/4 cup wheat germ
1/4 cup brewers yeast (available at health-food stores)
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon plus 1 1/2 teaspoons canola oil
1 clove garlic, chopped medium
1/2 cup chicken stock plus 3 tablespoons for basting
1. Heat oven to 400 degrees. Line a sheet pan with parchment paper. Mix flour, wheat germ, brewers yeast, and salt together in a medium bowl. In a mixing bowl, combine oil and garlic. Alternately add 1/2 cup chicken stock and flour mixture in 3 parts; mix until well combined. Knead about 2 minutes by hand on floured surface; dough will be sticky.
2. On a lightly floured surface, roll dough out about 3/8 inch thick. Cut out bone shapes; place on prepared baking sheet. Bake 10 minutes, rotate baking sheet, and baste with remaining 3 tablespoons chicken stock. Bake 10 minutes longer. Turn off oven, leaving oven door closed. Leave pan in oven for 1 1/2 hours longer

Yum-o for our furry babies..... ![]()
Though it's not a cookie recipe, I found this the other day and tried it out on my dogs -- they loved it, especially since it's still in the 90s here in Dallas
2 jars chicken baby food
1/4 - 1/2 cup water
mix together, pour into an ice cube tray and freeze until firm.
Hmmm...maybe I can make the dogs ice cream sandwiches with this and a couple of bone dog cookies!

I've read that "white chocolate" is safe to use.... what are your thoughts on this vonnie99? I am assuming it's okay because it is not true chocolate? ![]()
I have got to make some treats for my heeler, Jewel, as our guinea fowl are starting to look quite tasty to her ![]()
I believe that white chocolate is okay since there is no cocoa in it - but I'm not 100% sure - I've never used it myself. I use carob, peanut butter, cream cheese or even yougurt to dressup Toby's little treats. She will do just about anything for peanut butter!
Anyone know where you can find carob? I was reading somewhere that you can get it at a health food store but I dont have one near me. Any other ideas?
My boxer, Rocky, and his sister, Ally, turn 2 on Oct. 13. She lives down the road from my in-laws. We always have their birthday at my inlaws house. We adopted them together at 5 weeks old but had to give her to the neighbors because raising 2 puppies was too much.
We always have a joint birthday party for them. Last year they got ice cream. This year I've got doggie cake recipes but some call for carob and I dont know where to get it.
Thanks!
Besides health food stores, I don't really know where you'd get carob. Here is the recipe I have for peanut butter frosting:
Blend 4oz (1/2 block) of soften cream cheese, 2 tablespoons of honey and 1 tablespoon of unsweetened peanut butter together until smooth.
Apply to the cake on the day the cake is going to be eaten. This is a really thick mixture so I don't know how well you could pipe it for decorations.
