Yeah I reposted this in cake decorating if you would like to see the comments up there. I thought it was crooked too but sometimes the camera angle can do that...

I think the bottom layer is a 12" round... it only looks big because she is on her knees and he is 3 feet tall. icon_wink.gif

I'm pretty sure the crookedness is from the photography. If you look closely, you can see that the table looks distorted, too.

I think the cake is beautiful. I like it.
The table is fabulously decorated. It is slightly leaning. But they are happy. Tom is 5 ft 8 inches icon_wink.gif . and has not had a problem finding women to marry him. I'm sure a lot of men out there wish to be in his shoes. icon_smile.gif

Yep the cake looks crooked to me as well, doesn't make me feel so bad about the cake I am doing at the moment.

I thought it looked crooked too, but if you look carefully, it may just be the flash hitting the side nearest to them and making that side look shorter.

My husband is 5 ft 7 1/2 inches (don't forget the 1/2! lol) and I am 5'9".
I even wear 3-inch heels sometimes.
I think he secretly likes having an Amazon wife. icon_wink.gif

I'm going to defend the cake decorator again. I really think the crooked look is from the photograph. The whole table looks drawn out and wonky.

I like the cake. It's simple, but lovely.

Not to criticize the Italians for the baking expertise, but that cake looks crooked to me!

ok i haven't really started decorating like most of you but lets face it. the cake is crooked. and i have seen much better cakes on this sight. a cake that huge needs some color and umph. not alot just something other than white or off white. don't see all the hoopla.

I think the cake is very pretty. I can't imagine the pressure of making a cake for such a high-profile wedding. So props to whoever was lucky enough to do such a fabulous job.

I don't think the cake is crooked. I think the camera lens caused that effect. The entire table looks distorted.

Maybe that's the cake that they wanted, so for me, I don't take shots at people's wedding cakes. Even celebrities. Anyway, if someone from this site made that cake, the comments would be more favorable. icon_smile.gif

What do you guys prefer, the fondant with a sheen like this one, or the matte finish? Is it just a judgement call on what goes with the theme and what the person ordering wants?

The description says its a "white mousse confection" so I'm thinking that is not even a fondant covered cake but some sort of white mousse cake... and that the shiny outside is part of that "mousse confection".....

I was wondering if it was crooked but it also almost looks like it was done in "stairsteps"??? In which case it is not crooked but the camera angle to the stairstepping would be kind of a bad angle. Who knows.
