What do you use to dip cake balls? I think I 'm going to try them for Thanksgiving. all I have is white cake scraps and white candy melts. I had wanted to dip them in chocolate...can you use chocolate chips, or will they bloom?

Beach, I just noticed under new articles there's directions for cake balls. If you haven't seen it, it says you can use any choc. that will melt? I'm gonna try the candy melts...good luck!

YOu can either use the candy melt or the chips but I recommend using the melts because they will melt easier and more smoothly.

I had bad experiences with the chocolate chips guys icon_sad.gif I'm sorry to say. Once they came out of the freezer (after setting the chocolate) I let them come to room temp to munch on and sent some to work with hubby, they were fine the first day but after sitting out for a couple days the chocolate came loose from the cake balls and just "flaked" in big chunks, came off lol... So I recommend using candy melts now lol

I make peanut butter balls every year and I use chocolate chips, but I melt a 1/3 of a bar of Paraffin wax with a bag of chips and I don't have to freeze and they don't flake. HTH

I've used chocolate chips on the peanut butter trufles without any incident. It was thicker than the chocolate I usually use, but the tip about using a little veggie oil in it helped. They were refrozen and not eaten the same day, nofalling of here. Not sure if the peanut butter had anything to do with that. If all you have or chips, it would be worth a try. Or you could experiment to see if anyone has a preference.

Thanks guys - it won't hurt to try the chips since all i have are white candy melts. They'll be for tomorrow so hopefully they'll be fine for a day - I won't be making them until tonite.

For those of you who used choc chips, can you add Crisco? I don't have any parraffin.

Ray75 - thanks for the tip about the tutorial. I didnt' know it was there!
