Ok I am eally wanting to try and make a red velevet cake with cream cheese icing. My cake supply store has some lorann's flavoring. Now I didn't look much but I was wondering if I could just make some BC and add this flavoring or how these flavoring works? I was also wondering how well does the cream cheese icing work with to decorate...Melissa
Cream cheese icing is definitely not the same thing as cream cheese flavored buttercream, but I have never tried that flavoring, and maybe it's tasty.
Cream cheese frosting is easy to make, and I think it's delicious. It can be a challenge to ice with if you're used to buttercream, but to make it as easy as possible, use it immediately after making it. It's much, much easier to use when it's fresh. If it sits out, it gets too soft, and if you refrigerate it, it gets too hard.
You can decorate with it, too, but again, it's not as easy as buttercream. Your hands will melt it more quickly, and if it's refrigerated, it can be too hard to pipe.
I made a cream cheese butter cream icing and it decorated very well and everyone loved it. You do need to keep it refrigerated because it does tend to soften up in your hands. So I filled 2 bags with it and kept one in frig and used other till it became too soft, then switched. It still had the cream cheese texture and flavor with a sweeter taste but not near as sweet as buttercream is. I also pared it with a red velvet cake.
