Hi dear CC's, I been trying to make this turkey cake all day.The shape itself turned out pretty decent(considering it is my first time)tricked my family into beliving it was the rael thing sitting out to defrost icon_twisted.gif ,but my problem is color.I just can't seem to get the color to be dark enough.I did the water and food coloring steps about 10-15 times, but still didn't get it to be dark roasted color.I finally gave up and just finished off with the mixture of karo and water. Please someone tell me what it is Im doing wrong.Im ready to start crying.I didn't take the pic yet since I just put it in the fridge, but I will definately post it tomorrow. icon_cry.gificon_sad.gif

I just made my first one also...What I did was color the icing a shade of brown first..I added a bit of yellow, orange and red to the brown to get the shade I wanted..after icing and smoothing it I used a textured paper towel to give it some dimension..I finished it off with a spritzing of the corn syrup/water solution that was colored brown

I painted mine orange, let it dry then went back and painted it brown. The color looked pretty good, not much to say for the turkey itself. icon_redface.gif
