Purging My House Is Making Me Money!

I had so many projects I wanted to start throughout the last couple years. I would buy supplies and would buy too many or never got to it. I had two BOXES (book boxes) of stuff I had gotten from Michaels and never even opened. I thought, what the heck. I'm going to see if they'll take it back. I didn't have receipts, but I wasn't keeping this stuff. So, at first, I had just one major project of stuff I was thinking of returning - so I drove to Michaels with one bag of stuff. They took everything back! There was $191 right there!! I looked around my craft room and found more. I took EVERYTHING that wasn't opened and I knew came from Michaels. Went back today with the rest of the stuff and it was another $155... Now, it's all store credit as I didn't have receipts, but who am I kidding that I won't use it? I need a new christmas tree and it would basically be for free! I could almost get two of their big trees. I have $345!!! What a waste... There was about 15 things (small stuff - almost ALL of it was small stuff) they couldn't take back, but I couldn't believe how they didn't even question me about it!
So... if you have stuff sitting there and no receit, see if you can return it before you donate it! Now, I bought all this stuff when we were doing well fianncially (both of us working), but I won't be so quick to spend $2o here and $20 there.... Look how that added up? and that's not the stuff I opened and partially used and couldn't return.

Hey that is great that they took things back like that! Isn't it amazing when we stop and take stock of what we have bought, and didn't need or use, and just how much we have spent.
I'm going to take a look through my "stuff" and see if I can do that with some of it. Thanks for sharing!

Yep, it's coming in handy. I've been wanting a second Christmas tree for a couple years (we had two trees a few years back, so we have the "fancy" Mom tree (my decorations I adore) and we have the Christmas tree with all kid made ornaments, but with our house always a wreck and with limited funds, I couldn't justify two real trees. We sold the little fake tree we had because it was too small for the decorations we had made, so, we had been putting up the kid made decoration tree and my beloved ornaments have been collecting mildew in the basement.
I didn't think we could afford a fake tree since short run they are very expensive. But.... with $345 burning a hole in my wallet, I might just do it! Haiving two real trees would be a lot of work for me!

Well thats awsome. I am one of those people that as soon as I get something home I open it up and there goes the return. But one time I got this george formen (SP) bbq grill and like 2 years later I returned it and they gave me like 100+ dollars it was awsome. My husband didnt like it because it wasnt a REAL bbq pit so it just sat in the garage so I know exactly where your coming from. I just wanted to say good luck on the tree. ![]()
