quilt BLOCK LOL LOL OK let me quit laughing and think about this...
ok
If you did 3 inch squares that would be 4 blocks on the 12 inch side and 6 blocks on the 18 inch side.
3 inches for a quilt block is kind of small to get the detail in...you could do it, but 4 inches is easier.
that would give you 3 on the 12 inch side and 4 on the 18 inch side and you would have 2 inches left over. I would separate out the difference and put one extra inch on each side. or use some piping (stitching ?) to make up the difference.
does that make sense?
yeah 4inch blocks x 3 of them = 12 inch side
4 inch blocks x 4 of them = 16 inch side
12inch side fits perfect
18 inch side has 2 inches to play with
This might help you...I printed off the blocks the size I thought I wanted and cut them out and layed them on top of my cake pan turned upside down.
Helped me with the visual of it all.
Well, first you need to find out just what kind of "quilt" your client had in mind. Since there are literally endless designs you could adopt for this cake. Is it for a bridal shower? You could do a "wedding ring" pattern for that. Is it a baby shower? You could make it look like a crib quilt, which is roughly the same shape as your pan, being a rectangle. Is it a birthday? If so, what is the theme? You could do a "quilt" based on that. Does the event have a theme, like garden party, kitchen fun, tea time, etc... If so, you could do an oval with a theme based scene and then make the rest of the cake look like quilt block done in coresponding colors. Do they want squar blocks or diamonds? Clean edges or fringed?
You see what I mean?? I could go on and on like this. Find out a few more details and then post us on that and we can really brain storm for you! ![]()
I get to pick the style of quilt it is for the Homemakers Club, Just pastels is all they ask for no bright colors.
I actually like both those cakes and they are done in pastels...so without the baby decor they could work...Im going to do a pinwheel on one of them I know....then there is one that is called a rose quilt block...and both can be done in Pastels....Im not as worried about the design as I am the size of the blocks, so I can do detail work.
