I usually make a chocolate cake with caramel and peanuts, which people love, but I've been asked to make it with a layer of "snickers filling" meaning the creamy stuff in a snickers bar. Any ideas? I'm thinking of some sort of flavored buttercream, but have no clue how to pull it off.

Dulce de Leche might work too.......it kinda reminds me of a snickers filling.
Here is a current forum telling how to make it:

Cakes 47.........do you eat the middle out of Reese cups too? LOL
I think they sell a snickers spread in the peanut butter section of the grocery store... right by the nutella
Why don't you do a nougat layer, thats the stuff in a Snickers bar.
