If you were judging a cake contest and someone entered the WASC recipe, would you consider it a cake mix based recipe or would you consider the cake mix an ingredient of the recipe? I am planning on entering my county fair in a couple of weeks and the decorated cakes cannot be from a cake mix base. So I guess I am looking for a technical decision about the WASC recipe.
Thanks for your input. That was my first thought also, but I'm clutching at straws because I don't have time to experiment and I'm familiar with the WASC. My reasoning was that a cake mix base is made according to the package directions and then adds other ingredients which is not the case with the WASC. In my way of thinking that recipe uses cake mix as an ingredient. Would that argument hold water or is it full of holes?
I have judged in the past. You would not be able to consider the cake mix as an ingredient. It is the base to which all other ingredients are added.
