What's a good one????
My dh is wanting one for Christmas...been wanting one for a while...I've been looking everywhere, but with rebates, etc. it all gets confusing.
Can anyone give me some pointers on how/who/when/where??LOL without spending a fortune?
TIA!
My hubby has an HP laptop and likes it. My bil has the same one and he was having problems with it so he called HP and they fixed it for him and he was out no money and it only took something like three days. They even replaced the battery for him at no cost.
My gateway with AMD Athalon 64, widescreen, oodles of goodies, was 1100 at Best Buy this spring. It does EVERYTHING, including gaming, and handles Adobe photoshop and illustrator open at the same time easily. I would recommend it to anyone, and I used to hate Gateway.
We have a gateway laptop you can pick one up for a great price at best buy or online. It comes with a great warranty the Adapter was recalled and I didnt know so it caught on fire and they replaced everything at no cost even gave me an extended warranty so just in case I ever have future problems they fix it for free. We love it. We also have a Dell desktop but those can be a little on the expensive side.

Looks like this is the best for the money, quality considered. $750 but for a couple hundred more you can get higher-end, of course.
I have a Toshiba and I really like mine. I think we paid like 800.00 for it with an extended warranty and they even replaced my hard drive a couple months ago because it got thrown on the concrete. They told my husband to send it in and if they couldn't fix it they would give me a voucher for a brand new one.
I bought one from best buy and it still had the waranty and they refused to help service it...So I decided I would never go back to best buy and purchase anything. I got my Toshiba at Circuit City and they even gave me a 200.00 printer for 100.00 bucks...It does everything too.
I have a Mac. I would not trade it for anything. It never gets viruses. It has never crashed. It is not cheap. It works with other PC's. If you are a student or a teacher you get a discount. It is extremely easy to use. I call it stupidfriendly. Anyone can use this computer. They hold their price for resale. I have an iBook G4, my dh has a Macbook Pro. His has a camera installed.
I have a Dell. My husband bought it for me off of ebay. He does computers for a living, so he knew what he was looking for and what was a good buy. He got it for an amazing price, and it is still under warranty. I had an old laptop before my Dell....I didn't like it much. This one is great...even for a computer dummy like me. Good luck on your quest to find one.

I like both Dell and Gateway as well as Toshiba. All score high in Consumer Reports, as I recall Gateway had the best score for the money. Toshiba is a bit expensive but good. Gateway has excellent customer service, Dell is pretty good too. Compaqs are a pain to upgrade. I used the Gateway laptop that has the screen that flips down to use as a tablet PC for about a month. Awesome if you can spend the extra bucks! If I was going to buy and wanted to stay reasonable on price it would be a Gateway first, Dell second. If I was going to spend a little extra I'd get the Gateway flipdown tablet. He'll rename you Mz. Awesome.
I have a Toshiba Satellite that my husband got me last year for Christmas. I love it. He got it at Office Depot for around $750-800 I believe. It also came with a rebat for $150, but hubby didn't fill it our right and we never got the rebate
. I like Dells also, but the Toshiba is slimmer than those.
I have a Dell, their technical support is lousy...
I started having problems with it after only two years of minor use
. It kept running hot...the fan had stopped working
. Contacted Dell and was told by one of their technician's that my hard drive needed replacing. I opened the inside and cleaned and dusted everything and the fan started back working...glad I didn't listen to him about replacing the hard drive ![]()
My nephew is crazy about his ebook ![]()
Good luck ![]()
I have and HP laptop and I absolutely love it!! I love all HPs products, they are the only ones that I will buy. I usually buy directly from HP on their website. I haven't had many problems with it and the few that I have had, their customer service has been good.

I too dont really like my Dell. It runs ok but I have it as a desk top and when my husband called in for the free upgrade they said its not free and that we needed to pay like 400 dollars and then he said no they still sent it and charged him and when he called them they said that there isnt anything they can do about it. WTF how can you charge me for something we dont even want and told them NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Anyways my gateway had a few problems do to the adapter and I could call them all the way up to 12 at night and they would send me a box in a day I sent it back to them for free and there was my computer the next day with a brand new mother board. Cant bet that for time.

Thanks for letting me know this! Maybe we should invest in a cooling pad? Or....maybe I should just tell him to clean it often.
That's not too good to hear on their technical support. Glad you told me.
Thanks everyone. This is our FIRST laptop, so I'm just kinda excited about that!
