We have lots of deer around here, and I have been able to steer clear of them pretty well... until last night.... fortunately, it was not bad - just cracked the front grill. But I have only had the vehicle for a month! icon_cry.gif I ordered a new one, but it will be out of pocket as my insurance deductible is higher than the grill! oh, well.... could have been much worse!

anyone else meet up with a critter?

I am glad you are alright, I have seen cars literally destroyed by hitting a deer and the occupants of the car badly injured.

When my 6 year old sone was a baby...just about 5 weeks old, the three of us could have been killed by a deer that hit our car. It was about a week before Thanksgiving, and we were travelling to my mil's at night. I had JUST put the shade up on my son's infant carrier seat because he was sleeping and the headlights were shining on his face, and a deer ran out and we didn't see it. We hit it, and it slammed into the windshield of our car, parts of the deer actually coming thru the windshield. He flopped onto the side of the road, and after we stopped, he ran off. Antlers and part of the hind of the deer actually came into the car and glass shattered everywhere. DH and I were covered in it, and the baby had glass all around his seat, but not one piece on him or the carseat. I've never been so close to being killed or so scared in my life. The cop that saw the car said that none of us would have made it if the deer ahd hit a tiny bit harder. We would have either been killed by the impact of this huge buck coming on us, or killed when he snapped out of it and tried to get out of the car. I still get very nervous driving in the dark...especially this time of the year when the deer are running from hunters. Our car was totalled by one!

I have a very close friend from church and his parents as well as his brother and sister where driving to there familys house on christmas eve this was about 6 years ago. They hit a tree and it killed his brother and his sister now is mentally disabled because of this. I am very sorry for his familys loss and his dad has never been the same. But this may sound crazy but my family owns a minature deer its called a muntjac chinese barking deer. He is 2 years old and his is up to my knee he is full grown. He cost a lot of money but he is great. We keep him outside but when we first got him he was a baby and he lived inside with us and was litter box trained and he is part of the family. He is very friendly sometimes I thank more friendly then my dogs. But we love him and he loves us and one good things is we never have to mow the back yard. You should see peoples faces when they see him.

Not me, but my FI and his sis, in our car. The damage from the REPAIR SHOP was worse than the initial hit. That was 6 weeks ago, car was in the shop for 3 weeks, 2 more weeks fighting with the insurance company, and now it's back in the shop again. I WANT MY CAR!!! icon_cry.gif

I've never hit a deer SO FAR but I don't drive at night anymore due to night blindness. However, it once took 8 hours to make a 5 hour drive because there were so many deer out. UGH! Need a hunting license next year. They didn't get enough this year, and the population is up again.

Sorry to hear all the deer stories, being a city girl I haven't had an experience like that. Sounds like the kick instead of kiss!

Glad to know everybody has come through all right! Janice

I am glad your damage wasn't to bad. No person body injury Thank GOD. My DH has hit 2 deer. First one was in his Sundance. He saw it in time on his way to work in the early morning. He called when he got to work and said he clipped a deer. It put a small ding in front quarter panal.(SP) Second was a few year later in early morning. He was extremely lucky. He was driving his 92 camero it hit the front left quarter panel and torwards the middle of front and flew over the top of the car. His license plate was gone and a huge smashed front end. LUCKY to be alive. A few weeks earlier a friend with a similar camero hit a deer and it went through his windshield. He also lived but was hurt pretty bad. We are still rebuilding his classic car to this day. It is an RS which is a classic. Last one made of it's kind. So tonight what did we have for supper DEER icon_razz.gificon_lol.gif We don't get mad we get even icon_razz.gif
