Hi everyone. I've been lurking this site for a while now, but I think this is my first post. I am new to cake decorating, and am in Wilton II right now.

I'm looking for a great cake decorating book, preferably something that includes both good recipes and good decorating tips/ideas/inspiration. I was thinking of getting The Whimsical Bakehouse, but was wondering if any of you pros had any other suggestions. icon_biggrin.gif

Thanks a lot!

'The Essential Guide to Cake Decorating'-- by Whitecap Books Ltd. I have that on my Christmas list- have borrowed it from the Library countless times!

I guess it depends on the styles that you are interested in. Personally, I love novelty cakes, so I have a bunch of Lindy Smith books. Debbie Brown is good too.

If you are seeking a book that goes from soup to nuts on cake decorating, let me suggest

The Essential Guide to Cake Decorating. It has lots of information in it, with some very nice recipes.

If you just want a book with great recipes, go to The Cake Bible, by Rose Levy Beranbaum.

Hi Catherine,

Welcome to CC.

I've used:
First Steps in Cake Decorating by Janice Murfitt
The Essential Cake Decorator by Janice Murfitt
And
Yes
Cakes to Dream On by COLETTE PETERS (fantastically beautiful book)

You'll really have to decide what kind of pictures and directions work best for you. Don't forget to look at all the tutorials here on CC and look at Wilton, too.

Most important is to enjoy doing the decorating.
