I am makng a groom's cake for Saturday. There are 90 people expected, and there will be a 3 tier round cake (12, 8, & 6). How many servings should I make the groom's cake? Maybe 75 or so.

Also, I am going to use the Hershey's perfectly choc cake recipe (haven't tried that one yet). The recipe states it fills 2-9 inch round pans (assuming they are the standard 1 1/2 height).

How many times should I repeat the recipe for a 12 inch square and 8 inch square pan? I tried to figure it out using the baking guide on the site, but just confused myself more.

Also, how many recipes of icing should I use to fill and frost the cake?

Thanks, B

Just a thought.....don't use a recipe you haven't used before..........you could be creating problems for yourself.......

"Tried and true" for no issues......

Edited to add: Experiment new recipes on your family first.

Assuming you are going to make 2 layers for each, I think 1 recipe would make the 8 inch square (about 4 cups in each pan). Then you would need an entire recipe for each 12 inch layer (each layer needs 10 cups of batter) So that would be 3 recipes total. You should have a little bit left over. Since its hard to know how much batter 1 recipe makes, I would make one and measure it to see. You will need 28 cups of batter according to my book, and 12 cups of icing (but you might need more) Good luck!
