okay guys,

i really need your wise expertise on this one... i'm doing a bridal shower cake this weekend and need help replicating the bustier on this cake. i know it won't be any where near this (it's a collette cake icon_surprised.gif ) but if anyone has any tips, they would be greatly appreciated.
oh, fyi... i'm the girl that leaves the fondant on the plastic after rolling it out and flips it w/ her eyes shut praying that it won't rip... yep that's me, a wussy i know...

thanks yall!

I would do that in sections. I would suggest rolling the fondant/gumpaste Yes i would use a 50/50 mix, thin and long then wrapping the piece in the center first, then do the same with the top and bottom.

I, too, would use a mix, but possibly a little less gumpaste (maybe 75/25).
Also, add a little glycerine (just dampen your palms and knead in).
Use crisco on your rolling mat, not powdered sugar or cornstarch) and roll as fine as you dare.

Good luck - let us know how you get on. thumbs_up.gif

hey guys,

here is the final product lol! thanks for all of your help, the sections and the 50/50 helped tremendously. i'm pretty happy w/ how it came out, but when i was moving it my hand accidentally smushed the draping in the front left corner icon_surprised.gif . oh well, at that point i just brushed it off and kept on hehe... i decided to try my hand at tulips b/c that's what the bride is using in the wedding. they were my first flowers... so a lot of firsts on this cake. thanks again, yall are the best!

great job! It's beautiful. And I thought those were real flowers... in my defense, I'm on Vicodin, but still... they look really good! icon_smile.gif

You're braver than me! I've only tried draping fondant once, and folks thought I was trying to make my cake look like a Salvador Dali painting... nope... not kidding. icon_razz.gif

Your's looks GREAT! icon_smile.gif

thanks to all of you! ya know, i think i would go nuts w/out this website... no one else knows what a feat it is to do a thing like draping (as simple as it may sound)! don't get me wrong, my bf tries to be as excited as i am when something comes close to turning out, but yall keep me sane hehe! thanks again icon_wink.gif
