I am for my sons kindergarten class, and we have our first party this afternoon. There are 19 kids in class, and my budget for the entire party (snack, craft, game) is $25! Luckily, the school is providing the food for the feast today, so I had no problem coming up with the game and craft for $25. I know that the other parties, I'm going to be footing a big part of the bill. Anyone else in this sita=uation? For Christmas, I was thinking of letting the kids decorate cookies as their snack, and have a craft idea. I'm just wondering if it is a common thing to have such a small budget for parties? Are the homeroom moms generally expected to foot the bill?

Yep, that sounds about right. We have a donation list for each party though, so that helps.

We don't have a budget here. We either pay for everything or ask the parents that sign up to "donate" to bring certain things. This year I think we had one parent sign up to donate but the thing i think is weird is that you can't be a room parent, helper or donator unless you join the PTO. I really don't see what one has to do with the other??

One thing our teachers did was make a list of what needed brought. Veggies, fruits, cheeses, snacks, crafts, etc. It was nice because there was a variety of healthy foods as well as junk.

I'm room mom for my son's 2nd grade class, and I ask for donations from parents whenever we are doing a gift. When we do parties, I ask for volunteers to bring in snacks and drinks (I get two volunteers for the party) and they bring those in on their own dimes.

As room moms, there's a lot that gets done where you just pay out of pocket, and I think asking for volunteers to bring in snacks is not unreasonable. We don't get any money or type of budget at all! I've never had any problems getting volunteers to drop off snacks and drinks! I typically more than I need.

For my daughters Kindy class, the teacher had a sign up sheet at orientation, and I had volunteered for THanksgiving, so it was my responsibility to purchase the snacks. I ended up making a big chocolate chip cookie and decorated with a FBCT of pilgrims and wrote "give thanks" on it. They all loved it, and it was cheap to make! Somtimes the teachers will ask for specific things though, but for the most part they are just thankful somebody will bring something in!

Maybe I'll give sending a list home a shot. I'm just super paranoid that the day of the party will come, and parents won't send what they say they will, and I'll be out in the cold without snack or craft. I guess I don't really mind paying for it out of pocket, but we all paid party fees at the beginning of the year, and I'm the one who gets to pay for the extras that everyone likes for thier child to have at a class party. Today went really well for the first party, and the kids enjoyed themselves. The smiles on their faces make the money spent worth it.

my DD's teacher just sends a note or that's how my DS teachers have done it in the past--but back to DD, i've already taken cookies & cupcakes to the school along with store bought goodies for the "letter of the week", i was going to ask her if she wanted help for any thanksgiving thing, but i haven't had time with being at the school or doing for the school's PTO all last week & today--sometime the teachers have also just asked for 2 or 3 dollars per kids to have a party

Jen1977 when you send a list home can I suggest that you ask the parents to turn the items in the day before the party that way you will know what is there for sure. Maybe even ask for specific items from each person?? Good luck
