Help!! I made my first doll cake today as a practice for the real thing next week and I had some real issues. First, the cake came out a lot smaller than I thought it would. I really wasn't as high as I would have liked it to be. Then, I had a problem with keeping the doll stable. She kept leaning too much. I'm using only buttercream icing, don't have any experience with fondant so I'll just stick with what I know. This cake will be for the little girl's daycare class along with the other princess castle cake. When I make the cake for her actual birthday party I will make a sheet cake with the doll doweled on top. I also would love some suggestions on what to do with the bodice. I was so tired I really didn't try like I could have. I couldn't attach it but its listed in my gallery.

chrissy,

I have only made one doll cake, but here is what I did. I baked a 8 inch round and sat my wondermold cake on top for extra height. I also used a papertowel holder down the cener of the cake to support the doll better. The towel holder just reached the top of the cake, so the top half of the doll was still exposed for decorating. I think I used a tip 14 and made little stars for the bodice of the dress on my cake. There is a picture in my photos. Hope this helps.
