I charge $1/serv (1x2x4) for any cake that is not stacked, $1.50/serv. for stacked/tiered. I charge on the very low end but that is pretty much what things go for in my area. To get a better idea of the prices in your area call around to local bakeries and inquire about their prices.
Val
I agree with Val to call your local bakeries. My basic cakes are similiar to those in grocery store bakeries with additional fees for different flavors, fondant, and design. See my web site for my prices.

Sheet cakes: $1.50/serving based on a 2x2x2 piece.
Non-sheet cakes (meaning 2-layer, wedding, etc .... anything that is not a single layer sheet cake): $3.00/serving based on 1x2x4 serving.
No delivery on sheet cakes.
I RARELY, if ever, do onesey-twosey cakes, i.e. no birthday cakes or small cakes. 99.9% wedding cakes only. I will do sheet cakes for commercial customers.
Delivery included on non-sheet cakes, free within 30 min drive. $50 minimum outside of 30 minutes. Finally charge depends on what mood I'm in.
My wedding cake package (includes punch, cups, choose from two punch fountains or a punch bowl, mints, nuts, plates, forks, napkins, table linens, delivery, set-up, cake cutting/serving, and clean up of the cake table area) is $6.00/serving.
