Can I use just a angle food cake pan(without the hole ring) to make a bucket basket cake shape? Do I need a special cake mix? Thanks, It's for a basket and fall leaves cake for Thanksgiving. Any suggestions would be great!

I would bake layers in graduated sized pans, say 12", 10, and 8" rounds, or smaller 10", 8", and 6" you may need more than one layer of each size, fill and stack them, then carve the sides. If you bake just one thick cake, as in the angel food pan, you would need to torte it for filling and it may not be as sturdy as the graduated sizes with doweling for support.
I think someone on here posted a link to an egullet thread on a flower pot cake, it would be similar in shape. It is a long thread, but a step by step tutorial on how it is done. Here is the link.
