I've been sick for the last week, and it keeps morphing into something new. Started out feeling loopy, then vomiting for a day, loopy again, a day of better but dizzy, good day, then today. Today I woke up with watery bowels whch haven't stopped, can't keep anything down, and burping up rotten eggs that have me exiled from family living quarters! I think the first was Influenza B which is going around the schools, but this stuff from today is HORRIBLE and I don't think it's related! All liquid and gas. Now the others are catching it, and we have ONE bathroom.

Any idea what the last part is? I don't want to pass it around over Thanksgiving, but my fiance is starting it now. I've never had anything quite like this.

You poor thing.

I feel so bad for you - there's nothing worse than sitting on the pot holding a wastepaper basket in your hands because both ends are going at once.

Wish I could pass some chicken noodle soup through the monitor for you!

Don't know what you have, but I recommend Pepto-Bismal or Immodium. And of course, drink plenty of fluids...

Try to eat some plain rice - no butter or salt. It helps keep the stuff in your stomach in your stomach, if you know what I mean. It's part of the BRAT diet, which I'm sure you've heard of. Just make sure to keep yourself as hydrated as possible - that's the most important thing. Good luck, and I hope you feel better soon.

DUH! Yeah, I'm loopy - was a med tech and forgot the BRAT diet this time. Bananas, rice, apples (juice or sauce) and tea, right? Can't think straight to do homework, so here I sit between trips browsing on CC. Out of Immodium and Pepto and forgot to get more. Sending my guy to the store since he wont cuddle anyway. Thank goodness for 24hr Walmart!

omg - that's what is going around here!!!! exactly the same thing!!! what made me start to feel better was antibiotics. but then i stopped taking them and my stepdaughter came over, slept in my little brother's bed (he had it and my mom didn't wash his sheets) and now she has it and i think i have it again too. but try to get some antibiotics and then disinfect everything because whatever it is does not go away!!!!

Bananas
Apples(juice/sauce)
Rice
Toast

I'd never heard of this until our doctor gave it to us about a year ago.

It works, too, b/c I have a 4 yo that is in another "not eating" stage.

Good Luck to you and I remember having those burps when I was younger....I wonder what makes that happen....anyone know?

If I where you I would goto the "doc in the box". Around here its called Physians Care. Its a walk in medical clinic. I go there when I can not get in to my doctor. Maybe they can give you some antibiotics.

If I was still in Iowa we had one - he was the BEST and I used him as a regular doc. Here it's by appointment only icon_cry.gif

sounds like you have a stomach virus. (i'm not a doctor) But everyone in my house had it, my son, my DH, MIL(visiting) and myself. It's been going around pretty bad here.

I took my one year old to the pediatrician. He recommended the BRAT diet too. I hope you feel better soon.

Sounds like the symptoms I had with salmonella (food poisoning) from eating a bad egg. The nasty burps and the watery gassy bowels that no medicine seems to have any effect on. Mine wasn't real bad, but I was miserable for a couple of days.

When you say others are catching it, do you mean the flu symptoms or the nasty gas and diarrhea? Did they eat the same things you have eaten?

My doctor just told me to take kaopectate and plenty of fluids. He also said not to take immodium or pepto bismol, you want to keep the stuff flowing out of your system, the kao will help to firm it up and ease the cramping, but not stop the normal reaction your body is having to try and get rid of the nasties.

I hope everyone is feeling better real soon.

Mark

There is a virus going aorund and virus cannot be cured with antibiotics. I was told not to eat dairy, Fruit or veggies--Too much fiber to digest. Very bland food toast, crackers and water.Low acid food. Even Rice was too much because it fills you up so fast. My daughter has had this virus now twice in two weeks. Your body is just getting rid of all the bad stuff. It sucks!

It's the common Rotavirus. Nothing "cures" it except time and liquids. A shot of Phenergan or a suppository may ease the discomfort and help you to sleep for a while. icon_cool.gif

Settling the stomach after that mean bug is the main thing. The foods in the BRAT diet are geared not to inflame the tissues in the stomach and esophagus.

The burps are your body's reaction to an overstimulation of the bile ducts and pancreas over working due to the vomiting and diarrhea. thumbsdown.gif

It's always best to stay away from others for about 2 days after completely being better. ROTAVIRUS won't live on surfaces that have been disinfected with any of the following: bleach, Lysol, strong vinegar rinse, boiling water.

Anything like the toilet handles, showers, door handles, sinks, toothbrushes, etc. are safe havens for the actual germs to thrive on. Those things should either be disinfected thoroughly and left to AIR DRY without touching for 20 minutes after drying completely to eradicate as many of the germs as possible.

Hope you feel much better soon, and you're able to enjoy the holidays in grand style.

well i don't know what it is. i had so many things wrong with me that it was hard for the doctor to diagnose it. so since i had a uti he gave me antibiotics. it wasn't for my stomach but he said that it would help. and i did feel better with everything after taking it. i reallt wish that i would have gotten the flu vaccine this year though.

We have that awful virus going through our house. 5 out of 6 of us have it. It has been 4 days now with the same symptoms. My children's pediatrician said to clean up everything, so we Lysoled and Cloroxed like crazy yesterday, because they said the virus can live on surfaces for up to 4 days, and say if the baby touches something that has the virus on it, and puts her hands in her mouth, we'll start all over again icon_cry.gificon_cry.gif

Our son had rotavirus in the spring and ended up in the hospital because of dehyration. Best thing you can do is use that clorox anywhere surface cleaner - spray EVERYTHING, pillows, blankets, bathrooms, countertops - I also used paper cups and plates for a few days - didn't want germs being passed around. There is also a product called Culturell - all natural can usually find it in the vitamins section. Take one of those a day for a week - helps the good bacteria in your system. Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks everyone. Sorry to hear so many others are dealing with it, but I just knew someone could help!

I found that I can now keep (warm) applejuice down. Dehydration is getting bad, but holding fluids is a good start.

Thanks again!

Thats crazy my daughter gets shots for that. My husband is the only one who really leaves the house for long periods of time. I do all of my school at home so I can take care of my daughter. So hope we dont get that.
