Hi,
I've read everything that I can find and looked at all the swag and drape photos on this site and others and have a couple of questions:
do you roll the fondant thinner for an easier job? for a more graceful appearance?
do you mix gumpaste in with the fondant to maintain the shape?
do you place the swags/drapes onto the cake right away?
Thanks!! ![]()
We were taught to roll fondant for swags about 1/8 of an inch thick...no more...perhaps just a bit thinner. Too thin makes them "floppy"...too thick and they don't look natural. We did add gumtex to the fondant, but only because we were wanting it to all dry very hard as the "stuff" we did was all practice and we took it home. I think if your going to possibly eat it, you might not want to add the gumtex. If not...go for it. It will make it more sturdy.
