A friend called and asked for a cake for Saturday. She wants two cakes shaped like beer cans. I figured I could handle that. She wants 2 different brands, and Coors light was one. Sure, no problem, I have seen a few cakes like that on CC, I can probably handle that. The other is Labatt Light. I am attaching a picture of the can, because I haven't got a hot clue how to translate this to a cake. I was going to do fondant and then paint the details on, but that seems impossible for this can! I feel stumped - and stupid for saying I could do it when I can't!
Any other ideas are appreciated too - she originally said anything booze related - it's for a guy and girl who like to party.
Thank you in advance!

The easiest way would be to print the label with a food colouring printer onto fondant icing paper and thenstick it to your can cake, maybe your local ingredient or equipment supplier would have printer, well thats what i would do.

I'll have to check that out - perhaps our local grocery store can do that for me (small town icon_smile.gif). Thanks!

Would the taste be off because of all the blue colouring?

Any other ideas? If I did paint it, would I start off with white fondant and paint the blue and silver on? Or could I paint silver on blue fondant? But then how would I do the white?
Sorry for so many questions, but any help is appreciated.

Print out the picture so you have a TEMPLATE

Start with the white fondant and paint it...it doesnt matter sliver or blue first..but I do find that when I paint last with the metalics I always have a little poweder fly away on the other colors.

When I have a complicated pattern to paint..I print out several copies of the picture and cut out the different parts and then lay them on the cake and lightly score with a scribing tool. That is like a long needle with a wooden handle.

Thanks Risque, that sounds like a good technique. It still seems daunting, but maybe more managable now! icon_smile.gif

Meg, to be on the safe side if you want to, you can roll out a piece of random fondant,

do the pattern template technique on it and if it turns out nice you can then carefuly lay it on the fondant cake!

Now that I have my edible printer I wouldn't trade that baby for all the gold in the world..lol

But I did enjoy when I painted the designs, it was more satisfying..you know what I mean? Feed me artistically! lol

I still waste many edible sheets, to make my 2 bottles I printed out 4 sheets...even after I printed them on a regular printer..saw how the placement was on the bottles, when I went back with the edible sheets I still wasn't happy!

Bit anal I suppose...!? !!! lol
