I have a black Over the Hill cake to do this weekend. My friend wants BC, not choc, so I'm thinking I'll go with tinting the icing gray, then spraying with Black Color Mist to get to black. Can anyone foresee any problems with this? I hope it will work, yet not taste as bad as the black icing.

Any thoughts?

thanks!

I saw no one had responded to you. So, I thought I would give you my 2 cents and a push up the list.

From other posts here these are cautions:

1. The color will probably be a bit uneven as it is sprayed on and the coverage will vary depending on the spray.

2. Be careful because the wilton sprays tend to spit and you could end up with large blobs of color - so make sure you are far enough away when spraying.

3. Make sure you cover your work area is covered as color gets everywhere.

Thanks for your tips Judi. I had only thought about covering my workspace, but globs and spits, never thought about! Thanks for the heads up!

I used the green colour mist. To make sure that it did not get everywhere, I did it outside on the deck. I covered an area with newspaper, placed the cake in the centre & then sprayed. I then only had to gather up the newspaper & throw it away. Great, easy cleanup.

It's great for coloring coconut and ground nuts.

I thought the same thing and tried it on a cake today. My advise is do not waste your money! It came out a light purple no matter how much I shook it or sprayed it on. It made the surface wet and goopy. This was my 1st experience with this product and I am reluctant to use the red and green that I bought! thumbsdown.gif

I used the black color mist, and besides it not covering the way I like, I practically choked to death on the aftermist!

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT AT ALL.

I've used this before and got the results I wanted. However, I don't think it's made for solid coverage, you'd have to do a whole lot of spraying and then it probably would get "goopy". Another thing to be aware of is the taste, most of the colors I've used really have no taste to speak of but the green color has a pretty strong mint taste and most kids don't like mint flavor.

I have used the blue with good luck. The black was horrible! It was a grayish/purplish color and not even, streaking. I would never buy that one again.
