This is a picture of what the bride wants for her cake. Just roughed icing. I'm assuming that there is no special trick to doing this look, but i thought i would ask. Can't seem to find a photos on CC that shows the same look.

It sort of looks like when I was a kid, and we'd put the whipped icing on cakes and then drag a butter knife through the icing to make it look random.

I found out that you can achieve this look better with a spoon than with a knife, the spoon helpd make the ripples more noticeable. Just swirl it and if you feel you're dragging the icing put a little bit more in the spoon. Of course use the spoon after you've iced the cake using a spatula, no need to smooth it.

thumbs_up.gif That is the same cake pic that one of my wedding brides for next year brought with her! I am only doing the bottom tier like that though, the other 2 tiers are different. It's a neat cake. I am going to use the whipped icing for that tier. HTH. icon_smile.gif
