Does anyone have any idea how many piourette cookies it takes to go around a 9 inch cake?

I used 3/4 of the very large can from the warehouse club for an 8". I'd think at least two cans and there is always some breakage in the can...

Oh gosh I use a ton! I know that there are different brands but I use the Archer farms and it took a package and a half for a six inch cake.

I use the Pirouline cookies made by De Beukelaer because they taste so much better than Pepperidge Farms. On a 10" round cake I used one and a half cans. The cans are 14 oz. each. I measured and sawed through one cookie with a serrated edge knife so it was just a bit taller than the cake itself, then I used that one cookie as a guide for the height of the rest of the cookies. The grandchildren got the sawed off sections to munch on.

One suggestion. If you are making this cake a day ahead, after you have all of the cookies in place on the cake, wrap a band of plastic wrap around the sides to cover the cookies, they tend to soften if they are left uncovered.

Ive been wondering about these cakes, they look so pretty. Can you put them in the fridge or do they get soft or dry or are they fine? Does anyone know where to get chocolate curls (like cigarettes) instead of cookies for the same look?

Someone, I'm sorry I can't remember who now, posted a link in a thread a while back about those chocolate curls. Search the forums for Chocolate Cigarettes. And if all else fails try googling chocolate cigarettes lol

Yeah, I used over a can for an 8" round. And definitely either wrap them in plastic or wait to put them on until you're ready to serve, because they will get soft. I love doing the pirouettes around the side...you don't have to worry about how smoothe (or not!) your sides are!!

Chocolate cigarellos, also called cigarettes or pencils.
Scroll down to
LU Chocolate Pencils, there are solid dark, white or striped.

The nice thing is the cigarellos come in 8" length. If your finished cakes are 4" tall you can just cut the cigarello in half with a sharp knife blade that has been warmed and then you can use both halves and not waste any of them. I have several cakes using these chocolate cigarellos if you are interested in seeing the photos they are in my gallery. Page 5 has the zebra striped dark and light chocolate, and the pink and white striped as well. There is also a Calla Lily cake with all white cigarellos on one of the pages.

I used the Royal Dansk brand from Walgreen's. One dollar for a 4.75 oz. can. I used approximately three cans for a 8 inch 3 layer cake. They were still just a tiny bit tall but I packed the top of the cake with finely chopped pecans. After I finished putting the cookies around it I tied it off with a ribbon. I didn't refrigerate it and the next day took it to an auction where it sat out all day. It was fine; the winner loved it.
