A friend of mine is having an "Ice Party" in December and has requested a 3-D faceted diamond cake. Im normally really good at figuring how to, but this time I am completely stumped. Of course I would want to cover it with fondant but how could I give the fondant an slick, icy appearance and how do I get crisp sharp corners? And how do I get this cake to stand up? Pleeeeeze Help.
I don't have the answer for you but I'm interested too!

not sure on the sharp corners but you could try making part of it with cake and the bottom part from either rice crispies or styrofoam (cake dummy)
OR... make the entire diamon shape out of rice crispies/or cake dummy and place it on a base cake............
I would make a wood base with a "cake stand" and under the stand part (where the actual cake goes) glue styrofoam for the bottom of the diamond. It will be hard to sculpt and keep sharp edges. If you want it to look clean you might have to cover it in a thin layer of fondant and then cut each facet out of fondant individually and piece it together. (if you want me to sketch my idea out please just PM me!)
(If it were an engagement cake you could make a band for it out of rice crispies covered in fondant with gold luster dust!)
Anyway, Best of luck on your project!
Thanks for your responses!!! I couldnt think of a single way to make this from cake so Im glad to know the experts on CC conquer. Im going to use styrofoam. If my friend doesnt like it he can make his own diamond cake ![]()
. Ill make diamond petit fors to serve.
Thanks DecoratorJen, I think I know what you have in mind. But if I get stuck again I will pm you.
Thanks Again!
