Well it seems that at 26 years of age I have caught the chicken pox...again! I had them really bad when I was 2. I went to the ER last night and the Doc look me over and told me I have a SEVERE case of the chicken pox! He said only 3% of people get them twice, that most people when exposed to the virus again get shingles. It looks like the 4 ziplock baggies of cake balls that I was going to make for Thanksgiving will have to wait. icon_eek.gif Im covered from head to toe in Calomine lotion, the pox are even on my "girl parts"! thumbsdown.gif

Has anyone eles had the chicken pox twice? If so how bad were they?
Oh and any home type remides would be awesome!

Boy do I feel bad for you, I have only had them once as a teenager and the dr said she had never seen such a bad case of chicken pox. Aveeno line of products are good, whenever my kids have a rash I put them in the tub with Aveeno Oatmeal bath. Hope you feel better soon.....

Nope, haven't had chicken pox twice, but I had two mild outbreaks of shingles. It is very painful and can cause lasting pain called neuralgia. I ended up with a rare disorder from my second bout of shingles called transverse myelitis. Although today I am much better, it took a long time and I can still end up with having complications in the future from it.

I am only telling you this to warn you to run, don't walk, to a neurologist if you do end up with shingles to hopefully avoid any of the complications.

In the meantime, I am sorry you have to deal with Chicken pox and hope that you heal quickly, without too much aggravation.

My son was playing with a little girl at preschool the other day when the teacher spotted the spots on her. I have my fingers crossed that he does not get them!! I have about a week to wait until the spots would be due to come out and of course that would be right on my birthday so it would be bye bye party!!

Hope you feel better soon, I had them when I was 18 they showed up on Christmas Eve! not happy!!!

I am so sorry to hear this news, it seems like every childhood disease we get when we are older are way, way worse than when we are young.
I had chicken pox at 14, a really miserable case, then when I was 40 something I had the shingles, and they were on my face, lots of concern around the eyes, but they eventually cleared up.

Lots of sympathy and understanding coming your way for quick recovery. Janice

Thanks for all the well wishes! I feel ok today, my first "batch" is crusting over and a new ones are popping up all over. My Hubby found some Aveeno cream that is helping ALOT! Its called Aveeno Calamine and Pramoxine HCI Anti Itch Cream, its for the pox, posion ivy, insect bites. I HIGHLY reccomend it to anyone who has an itchy rash. It feels like it has menthol in it so its realy soothing.

*socake I hope your Son gets to have his Birthday in good health! Poor little guy!

*veejaytx, I hear the shingles are horrible! Thats one thing I keep telling myself...it could always be worse..

Thanks again for all the good vibes!

Wow.... I am so sorry for you. I had them as a very little girl and still have scares from them. I have a 1 year old and its a new thing now that they give all the babys the chicken pox shot in order to prevent them from ever having them. It seems to be so dangerous that they dont want babys to have them anymore. So needless to say at the 1 year checkup she got the shot and we never have to worry about it. I heard that it is very dangerous for an adult to get the chicken pox because of the fever or something. Not sure exactly why but I am sure that I have heard that many times. I hope that you feel better.

Heres some info on the vaccine, its for children between 12 and 18 months. http://www.medem.com/MedLB/article_detaillb.cfm?article_ID=ZZZU7QBMH4C&sub_cat=24

I have 2 sons, they have had the vaccine, so that puts my mind at ease. If they get it from me it should be mild. Im not sure why they dont give younger children the vaccine. I have read that if a mother has had chicken pox before she has children that she passes the virus onto the child, giving the child immunity for a period of time. Maybe thats why they give the vaccine at 12 months. Its pretty intresting...what would I do without Google?! Haha!

Yeah they actually run test for things like the Missles Mumps and rebela not sure on the spelling and they can tell if we have had those so that way they dont have to give the vacine to the children till 12 months as well. I guess the chicken pox fall in that.
