On alot of the whimsy looking cakes they have the "rolled " look roses. Do you just roll a piece of fondant to achieve that look? Thanks for any help or advice on this one. I want to put some on a cake and would love to know how.

This is a tutorial on ribbon roses. I know I have another one. I thought it was on CC, but couldn't find it. When I find it, I'll send it along. www.bakedecoratecelebrate.com/techniques/fondantribbonrose.cfm?cat=4

wilton calls these ribbon roses and crazy enough I think they are harder to achieve than regular fondant roses. I find it real hard to get them to look right. Maybe because I am left handed? no sure. Anyhow if you have a wilton yearbook, the instructions are usually in there or online.

I agree they take some practice to make them look like roses. I found if you hold them at the "bottom" as you roll, they are looser. Then you open, by pushing gently, the rolled parts to make them look more like petals. There is another method where the fondant is folded in half and then rolled. I like the look of this technique better than the single strip. And for the life of me I can't find the directions, I know it exists!

Yes, its a strip of fondant that is folded lengthwise, when ya roll it up, make sure the fold is the top part of the rose...I spent a whole day rolling these things over and over again, just playing with them, trying to get them the way I wanted.

Yeh, thats what I did too, in the end I was very pleased with them and left them to dry.......THEN THE FLIPPING DOG ATE EM!!!!, icon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gif but it was MY fault....I'm usually very careful in keeping my work out of reach...must have had a Senior moment... icon_lol.gif
