I am a newbie to this site and wondering if anyone can give me some advice on how to make a 3d santa for my christmas cake.

You could try using the 3D bear pan?
If you're trying to make a santa figure type topper for your cake, you could try making some marshmallow fondant (the recipe is here somewhere) It's basically playdoh made from marshmallows. LOL But I'm not sure if you're wanting that or not..
