How Do You Apply A Ribbon On A Cake?

I am making a pretty simple two layer anniversary cake and I'm going for easy and simplistic. I've seen pictures of ribbon used around the cake and I love the look and it seems easier than doing a lot of detail work. I was just wondering how do you make it stick to the cake and get the ends to stick together?? I've looked on some of the forums for this question and I couldn't find anything. Please help. Thanks
I use dots of buttercream to "glue" it on. This is what I did on my daughters sweet 16 cake in my photos.
If the cake is covered in fondant you should be able to stick the ribbon to the cake with a bot of water or clear vanilla or buttercream or royal icing. You should only have to do it in the back of the cake.
If it is buttercream, you can use buttercream or royal icing as glue to hold the ribbon ends together.
If you're talking about attaching ribbons like in the cake I've shown, it's done by wetting the ribbon with cold water and running the ribbon between your thumb and forefinger to take away most of the water but still leaving the ribbon damp, then it will stick to fondant easily, you can even move it around a little to get it just right before the ribbon dries.
Once it's dried it should stay in place. Mine has been on for about 6 months on this display cake and it hasn't budged.
