I'm sorry if this has been address elsewhere, but I did a search and couldn't find anything.
So I made a batch of MMF and it seemed to work pretty good. It did seem a bit on the stretchy side in that any time I'd pick it up ir would stretch out of shape. But the biggest problem came when it was time to eat. You couldn't even poke a fork through it! It was so stretchy and chewy you couldn't cut through it. I had to eat the cake out from underneath it.
Is this something I could've prevented? Did it need more powdered sugar? Or is this just how MMF is? Also the decorations I made didn't ever dry. Is that normal too?
Just hoping some of you seasoned experts could help me out. Thanks!
I'm bumping this for you, because I'm curious about this also. I made it for the first time this week and it seems awfully stretchy. I'm worried it's going to stretch right off the cake! (Don't laugh, please!!!)
Anyhoo, also, when you dowel your cake, do you do it BEFORE you put the fondant on? If you put the fondant on and then dowel it, it seems like it will crack it or stretch it and screw it all up?
I had this problem myself with one of my batches of MMF. I thought maybe I didn't melt the marshmallows good enough. My customer said she had a hard time cutting the cake. But she had stored it in the refridgerator, so we thought that may have been the problem.
I would like to know if anyone has an answer to this problem?
Sounds like you are rolling it too thick. I would think if it was too stretchy or too sticky you wouldn't have been able to roll it, but if you think it was, you can always add more powdered sugar. When you think you've added enough, add some more lol
