I am working on one of my OSSAS entry's today and I am not having a great day with this cake! I'm so incredibly bummed I just want to cry! icon_cry.gif
My cake is supposed to be a tall elegant teapot but is looking more like a lumpy sided giant chess peice. It is a sculpted cake (one of my first) and covered with satin ice. Because of the spout I had a hard time arranging and smoothing the fondant when I was putting it on which led to me cutting off one whole portion on fondant re-rolling it and patching it back on! icon_redface.gifshhh.gif This has left me with two top to bottom seams. I have smoothed over them the best I can with a little water so that the seams are gone but I'm left with this nasty bumpy surface. icon_mad.gif I had planned to have a flower motif brush emb. on each side of the cake and I think that will cover up part of this mess thumbs_up.gif but deffinatly not all. thumbsdown.gif
I don't have the option of scraping it off and starting over as I don't have enough to cover it again. At this point I'm considering covering the whole cake or at least a good portion in brush emb. what do ya'll think?
Advice anyone? (Before I go hide under my covers).

Ack! Sounds like a bad day. You're an awesome cake decorator for just trying a teapot. If I ever try one, I'm sure it would turn into a deflated basketball. thumbs_up.gif

Umm, if you think embroidery would cover it up then that would work. If you could post a pic of it, it would definitely give everyone some more ideas. (Plus we'll all know how awesome it really looks!!! icon_biggrin.gif )

Or maybe do some patchwork on it with some extra fondant. Make it look like a lovingly used and tattered teapot? Paint a few cracks on it with luster dust or something?

Good luck! I'm sure it'll turn out great.

Thanks for the encouragement aswartzw! I'm feeling a bit better now that I've set it aside and begun on my second cake. But I know I'll have to go back to it later...
I'll see about posting a picture later tonight, I've been taking plenty as I have to turn in three to the judges to show progression. But right now the natives are getting restless so I'd better go make dinner! icon_rolleyes.gif
More later...

It is not about how good your are...it is about how well you hide your flaws. I have becaome quite good at it! If it is sculpted you can cover the cake in royal.

trulyscrumptious I hope you have a better time with the teapot cake after you take a breather from it - good luck with it and your other entry. I love your user name by the way - I've got the song from Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang stuck in my head now!
