I recently did a cake (40th bday) w/ little balls on wires, coming out of the top of the cake... All was good, till I had to put them in! Some stayed nicely but others were being difficult, and not wanting to stay in place. Anyone have any tricks/suggestions on how to do this, and not have them shift around? This cake was assembled on site, and not going anywhere, but if it were, I would think they'd get all messed up.

This may shound strange but I find more uses for the white paper covered styrofome from the craft shop. Cake boards(cover in plastic of course). I have even cut and glue guned together to make awsome spice rack for inside my kitchen cabinets.

You can wrap the wires in floral tape, stick plastic drinking straws into the cake and then stick the wired balls into the straws. You should be able to get several wires into each straw, fill full and then bend the ball wires to the shape you want them in. Kind of like this?

Be sure you let people know there are straws that have to be removed when cutting the cake.

Shirley, hadn't thought of the straws, but that's a good idea. It would keep the wire from cutting through the cake. I'll remember that - thanks!
