Hi everyone!

I am looking for some cute and easy halloween costumes ideas. I have 3 boys (2, 4, 6) and I like to make the costumes myself, though I do not sew very well (I can do some basic stuff, but i would prefer not to use patterns etc. Help! Any ideas??

I will try and post some pics of my former costumes in case it helps anyone else with ideas!

I have to go find the pics and probably shrink to fit here, so I will be back!

okay here are some costumes I have made in the past. I really like to use boxes and sweats, felt and glue. I did make the puppy costume with a pattern...but OMG! I did not know what I was doing.

so cute.......I am debating on this myself...... last year I threw together a cowboy/sherrif theme, got out a plaid shirt he had, jeans bought a cheap hat and bandana for around his neck and was done! My son was 18 months last year.......

this year I am thinking about doing mini scrubs and fisher price doc kit, but dont know if I will find small fry scrubs.....

Very cute! I just bought that same cowboy hat for my kids. We had a Hoe Down themed block party a couple of weeks ago. I thought maybe I would have one of the kids be a cowboy.

For my son's first halloween, he was superman. I took a blue sweatsuit and put a felt superman symbol on the shirt. I made a red cape from felt also. For his second halloween, he was a scarecrow. I took overalls and put felt strips coming out of the sleeves and legs to look like straw. This year I've made him a Thomas the train costume, but he doesn't like it. I've put it on him a couple of times to see how it looks and he takes it off in a matter of seconds. The other day he wanted to put it on, so I let him. Then I heard the toilet flush, and there was Thomas in the toliet. So I don't know what he will be this year.

Those ideas are great too! I was also thinking scare crow, but I really like your idea of using felt to look like the straw, much less scratchy. I was thinking of that raffia stuff. Thanks for including pics too!

We've done a few homemade Halloween outfits, but I only have a picture of one on my work computer. My mom can sew some, so she made a pirate costume for my middle son a couple of years ago. I just bought the striped fabric for the pants and red felt for the top, she added a few gold buttons she had and used leftover fabric for the headwrap and belt. She also just folded over the waistband of the pants and we threaded a piece of fabric through and tied it off. We couldn't do very good measurements, because we kind of did it all last minute. Anyway, you see in the second picture, he ended up wearing a white shirt under the "vest" and wouldn't wear the headwrap, and he carried a pirate sword. Turned out very cute. (Please ignore the mess in the first picture!)

The year before that my mom made him a "Bam Bam" costume. I just bought leopard print faux-fur fabric (smooth, not fluffy fur) and she just wrapped it around him, marked where it met on the side and sewed that one side, and cut the top so that the material could just be pinned on one shoulder. I found some cute little plastic bones at the Halloween store and stuck two of those through the shoulder where the pin was, cut the bottom zig-zagged, like the pirate pants, and bought him a big plastic "club" to carry around. So easy, and we got so many compliments on how adorable he looked! And if you knew his personality, you'd know the character is a perfect fit for him!

I haven't decided what my little can be this year. My oldest wants to be a vampire and the middle one wants to be a red Power Ranger. The scarecrow idea is adorable! I may borrow that for my little one! icon_smile.gif

I made a baby bird costume for my now eight year old son when he was two. It was adorable! I took a blue sweatshirt that he already had. Bought some bags of blue feathers from Hobby Lobby. I then glued the feathers onto the sweatshirt. Took a hat and glued yellow felt on the bill, two stryofoam balls for the eyes, and added feathers. I used more yellow felt and made feet to go over his shoes. (matching blue sweatpants)

I was very proud of this costume! We took him to our zoo Halloween and so many people made a fuss over him and the costume.

Here are some directions I found googling...

My 8 yr old is going as Hannah Montana..We got her whole costume at Goodwill Outfit 6.00 I don't know if you have a thrift store near you but you can find some great idea there. FOR CHEAP. I did make DS a Nascar outfit one year about 10 years ago. He was Ricky Rudd at the time he drove the tide car. I kind of winged the outfit. I had a Orange sheet and made the jumpsuit. And his car was a box designed with emblems that DH did. It was kick but he won prizes at his scout party. He was also a mummy and ghost white sheets and pillow cases were used for these. DD has been princess for most of hers. Pretty dresses from Goodwill and a crown... CHEAP then they double as dress up afterwards LOL

Bag of trash LOL so my DS it ain't funny

no, didnt see the cabbage patch baby! I will have to go check it out!

Thanks for more ideas guys?

kay: I don't know much about racing but a few years ago a neighbor of my parents had one of Ricky Rudd's cars. He worked for Rouch (?) anyway, I guess it was not one he was currently driving but they must have been taking it around for events or something. My kids got to go in the trailer and have their pictures taken by the car.

My nephews went as Link, Marion and Luigi (the Mario and Luigi are twins, and so were the boys, lol). It was very cute, their grandma made their costumes.

I just finished my DD's -we got the idea out of a Chick-Filet-A book. They used creape paper where I used material so it would make it through tonight and Halloween! Now it is hiding in a closet so she can't destroy it! icon_lol.gif
