I need to make a castle cake and have read many posts on here I want to make the turrets with the cardboard paper towels. Do I need to cover the cardboard with frosting or saran wrap before putting the fondant on them to make it stick? Any other pointers will be greatly appreciated.

hiya, frosting if you're keeping the cardboard, or cover with film wrap then dust with cornflour before wrapping the paste round. leave it to dry 4-6 hours seam side down. when it feels hard on the outside slide them off carefuuly and stand them upright so the centres dry. leave overnight. Also make sure the cardboad are longer than your turrets for removing them easily.
What kinda paste u using, you should be using a fondant mixed with the powder to make it dry hard.
