HI All

Please help if you can. I am trying to achieve a velvet type texture on a fondant covered cake. Does anyone know how to achieve this or any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hope everyone is well, haven't been able to get on line much lately.

Thanks again,

D

I would lightly coat a surface with royal and use a very fine sponge dipped in water. Sponge the surface to get the desired texture?

depending on the color of fondant you are using.

i have used cocoa powder on chocolate fondant and it gives a powdery, textured look similar to velvet or suede. on white, you could use powder sugar or cornstarch. on colors, you could mix colored petal dust with cornstarch. just dust above it with a sieve or strainer and rub it in.

i was just reminded of the book by kate sullivan called fun and fancy cake decorating. on the cover, is a pink/red and gold cake, and i think i recall the technique that she used to get this velvety look was basically using powdered food colors with extract (on white fondant.)

I think I've seen in a magazine....might have Pastry Art and Design....a product that you spray on to get that texture. I'll see if I can find it and I'll post the name and website...won't be until tomorrow, tho, it's late and DH wants lights out!
