Anybody have a tutorial on how to cover a cake board w/fondant?
I don't have a tutorial but this is how I was taught.
This is for a round cake buy I suppose you can use the same concept for any shape.
Once your cake is on the board and covered in fondant, take a big ball of fondant and roll into a sausage shape. dust your work surface with icing sugar and roll out the sausage into a long strip. Long enough to go around the circumference and wide enough to fill the open space.
once rolled, cut a thin strip off the one side of the longer side, just so that you have a straight edge.
with a damp sponge, dampen the board with water.
Dust the top of the fondant with icing sugar so that it will not stick. Now, roll the strip up. You do this for easy handling. Place the straight edge perpendicular to the bottom of the cake and un-roll the fondant moving around the cake. Once you get all the way around, cut off the excess fondant and neaten the seam. Then, take a sharp knife and in line with the edge of the board, trim off the excess fondant. Use your smoother to smooth all around.
I hope this make sense.....if not, please let me know and I will try to explain.
