I made MMF like I always do, but something happened and it isn't coming out right. And I need this for a cake that is due tomorrow at noon. When I roll out the fondant it has holes all through it, but it is not dry. And when I try to pull it up it shreds. What can I do to fix this? If nothing, then how can I make the taste of Wilton fondant so that it isn't so bad?

I microwaved it for 20 seconds, but it didn't help. And yes, I did it in the mixer, but I never had this problem before doing it that way. Any other suggestions?

It needs one of 2 things.

1. More sugar worked into it (maybe even with a little corn starch)
OR
2. the opposite - work in more grease - crisco.

try one, if that doesnt work - or if it gets worse - try the other.

It need to rest. After a while you will be able to roll it.

Definitely needs more powdered sugar! Try rolling it out with powdered sugar as well.

That should help.

After popping in the microwave for 20 sec, try kneading by hand on a sugar- sprinkled surface - not too much - and REALLY knead it, folding the outside edges into the middle and 'squishing' - 1/4 turn each fold.....
Alternatively - use the Wilton recipe, adding a tablespoon of lemon juice, or vanilla, or almond extract....really does not taste bad with the additions.
Good Luck
p.s. when this happens to me - i choose to start all over again - too much time and effort!!!!!

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I tried to work more powdered sugar into it, and ended up getting frustrated. So I pulled out some Wilton fondant, added vanilla like angienajjar said, and it tasted pretty good. The overall look was great as shown in the picture. Again, thanks for the help. This was my first paid job as a legal business. Thanks to Doug for giving me ideas on the name "Wolf 'n Good Creations"! icon_biggrin.gif

I sometimes get the little holes in mine too. I am not sure why. The last time I made fondant I made a small batch and did it by hand (vs. mixer) and it came out so much nicer. I dont know if it is the mixer or because the small batch recipe has more water in it. so I dont know if the consistency just worked better for me. ??????

Your cake looks lovely - loved the little poem!!!
Next time, try making your fondant totally by hand, and see if that works - seems the Mixer adds a lot of air into the fondant, and sometimes over-beating can do that too. Its hard to know how much is 'too much' - by hand - you get the 'feel'
Nice job!!!!!
