I couldnt believe it. I had just finished my frog cake on Friday for a shower that was on Saturday. I had trouble with the frogs icon_cry.gif and when I was just about to give up, my sweet hubby came in and helped me out. thumbs_up.gif Thanks to kelleym for her frog cake that I got the idea from.

I finished the cake and was so proud. thumbs_up.gif I put it on the dining table and took a pic. I then started on my sons birthday cake (dove cake) and the icing (white chocolate) was too soft. I asked my hubby if he wanted to go eat dinner while I put the cake in the refrigerator to firm up. We were gone about an hour. I came home, got the dove cake out of the refrigerator, glanced in the dining room and screamed. icon_surprised.gificon_cry.gif Hubby came in there to see what had happened. When he realized what had happened, he doubled over laughing so hard he was wiping tears. icon_mad.gif

Gracie, the bratty little Chihuahua thats to the left of the screen (my avatar) had gotten on the table when we were gone and eaten the buttercream off the cake. icon_mad.gif Luckily, she doesnt like fondant and didnt mess up the frogs. I had made extra frogs so the only one I salvaged was the big one on top. thumbs_up.gif I had some cakes in the freezer so I threw another one together. It was amazing that she had eaten all around the fondant circles and all around the little frogs.

Its kind of funny now, but was a real crisis when it happened. I was so proud of the cake and to come home and find my sweet little Gracie had been such a bad girl when I was gone was enough to make me want to choke her. She taught me a hard lesson.

The best part was that my husbands niece was so happy with the cake. thumbs_up.gif

What a cute cake!!!!! I'm glad Gracie didn't eat the frogs so you didn't have to start completely over. My dog ate enough stolen cake once to throw up all over my carpet, and she never stole another cake again. I hope Gracie fared better. icon_smile.gif

No fair posting this hilarious (now that it's over) story and not posting a pic of the licked cake, with all of its fondant intact yet devoid of BC. Did you take one?!

Anyway, sorry for your troubles, what a nightmare! Thank heavens for freezers huh, and so glad you had some extra frogs!

O...M...G... I don't know what I would have done!!! First off, I hope Gracie is okay! All that sugar can't be good for her. And if dogs react like kids do when they've had too much sugar...WHOOOO!!!!! Glad you were able to salvage. And it is ADORABLE!!!!!!!!

Someone left a chair ajar or else Gracie is a very inventive little furball. Years ago when I was visiting my parent, my dog- a shih tzu- jumped onto a kitchen chair left ajar, then onto the table and claimed an apple fritter right in front of my mother and me. She took her fritter and proceeded back to the chair and onto the floor to eat it. My mother and I were so stunned that we let her. I guess the dog figured we had been rude in not offering her one in the first place so she served herself.

My current dog is big enough take things off the table, counter or buffet without any problem. I have learned to never leave food unsupervised. She has eaten several sticks of butter left on the counter to soften, margarine she doesn't touch. Toast out of the toaster- I was brushing my hair in bathroom when it popped so she claimed it. I stood like an idiot staring into the toaster trying to figure out what had happened to my toast. She is better now that she's older, but I don't tempt her either.

That is a beautiful cake, and such a cute story. Thanks so much for sharing.

I'm glad you thought ahead and had backups. icon_smile.gif Something I still have to learn to do.. heh

The last in house pet I had was awesome! He was a rottweiler, and he never ever touched anything unless we said it was ok. We could leave a plate of food sitting on the coffee table, leave the room, and he wouldn't come near it unless one of us looked at him and said ok, Thor.. you can have it now. Then he'd get up, slowly walk over, and take what he wanted. (I thought that was gross, but it was the boyfriend's dog, and dishes, so I just made sure I sanitized them before using them again.. hehe) Great dog, though.. I sure miss him.

My current rottweiler is not at all like that. He's never taken food from the table or anything, but I haven't given him the chance either. Just in case. icon_wink.gif

Gracie is fine. It never phased her little tummy. I was worried that she'd be sick because of the amount she ate but my daughter said, "Mom, she eats Pad Tai Noodles (from pei wei) so buttercream isn't going to hurt her tummy." I don't remember but there had to be a chair pulled out. I don't think she could have gotten up there without it. I was so upset I don't remember looking.

The stories are so cute. I wish she was more like Thor and disiplined. Instead, she thinks she's a Rotweiler and attacks other dogs. Luckily, they haven't attacked back, just look at her like she's a crazy rat. I love the story about the apple fritter and toaster. That is too funny. What would we do without these little rascals to keep us entertained?

After I threw the cake away, I thought, "Crap! I should have taken a pic to show my CC friends." You can just imagine the cake with the fondant circles in place and all the buttercream licked off around them. She licked it so clean that you could see the naked cake.

That is so cute. I'm glad she isn't sick.

I know what you mean about the little dogs that think they're big. My mom has a little terrier that's constantly trying to take on the bigger dogs. It's SO adorable.

Your little angel sounds like she's just wonderful to have around. icon_smile.gif

I'm so glad you were able to salvage your cake, and laugh it off. That just shows what an amazing person you truly are. icon_smile.gif

Take care,

Holly

What cut little frogs! My mom had a cat named Fluffy who loved Royal icing and CAKE. She got into a grooms cake once and ate out the middle, after that mom made sure the cat was shut in the bedroom, outside, or the cake was covered. I have to agree though it is pretty funny now

Holy cow!!! If she had eaten the middle of a groom's cake, I'd have really flipped. She's so spoiled and such a mischevious rascal and keeps us laughing. I was totally stunned and my husband could only laugh. I'm so glad I had some cake in the freezer.

OMG...too funny...I know it wasn't at the time, but you KNOW you will laugh in the future.Honestly...I love dogs...they just crack me up. I'm waiting for my dog to stan one of my creations one day...he sits by my side when I bake with his long nose up in the air for hours...you can just tell he's plotting a scheme to steal one one day...please don't allow Gracie to go online and share her success story with other canines!

You have to love Chihuahuas! I have a 5 yr old baby....err...chihuahua and he'll eat anything. He currently weighs 11 lbs (he's on a diet so he can't have cake....and he's a wuss so he won't climb dining room chairs anyway icon_smile.gif BUT, now that my 15 month old is mobile and snacking on the go, he follows her around like she is the Cheerio-God, raining down crumbs and cheerios, just for him icon_lol.gif

Cute story............At least you did have the extra cakes made. I have two Shih Tzus that stand and cry the whole time I am decorating a cake, I started it by giving them small pieces from leveling the cakes.

Haha! Hopefully, Gracie will stay away from the computer and not share her influences with other doggies.

We are already laughing about it saying, "buttercream is Gracie's favorite." When she begs for food we always say whatever she's begging for is her favorite.

She cries too when I'm in the kitchen cooking or baking. She thinks she has to sample everything.

11lbs!!! That's a "healthy" chihuahua. icon_biggrin.gif Gracie is 5lbs and probably going on 6lbs. She's gained a little weight lately.

I'd have strangled her if I didn't love her so much.

I'm glad everything worked out. It's funny now that it all turned out and you can look back on it and laugh. My daschund did the same thing when I made a cake about a month ago. I had it on the table and I turned around and the next thing I know he got up on a chair and was licking the icing. It was sooooo not funny when it happened.
