My sister just had a baby, is trying to break away from her day job and start up a little business. People tell her "it's a good idea", but she wants an un-biased opinion before she gets lofty ideas. She's worked out some logistics already. Here is the business premise. I want your opinion. Do you think this will fly? Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated.

She's state licensed for giving pedicures and manicures. "Hostess" would invite 4-6 friends to their home for a "girls night in". Hostess would serve beverages and light spread (either light appetizers, or just a dessert). Ladies would spend 2 hours socializing and enjoying their time away. My sister would offer pedicures for $25 and manicures for $15. As a perk, hostess would receive a free service (her choice). Ideally, she would like return business and hopes that others (or same person) would book other parties with her. She's purchasing a pedicure stool (for feet placement). She uses disposable liners in her tub and sanitizes her instruments between clients, and launders her towels (all above the state standards). I'd personally love to get away for an evening, catch up with my friends and enjoy a reasonably priced pedicure. What do you think? Thanks!!

My neighbor had one of these parties a few weeks ago. It was from The Body Shop. I did not go as I am a germaphobe and the thought of being where things can't be sterlized in a machine skeeve me. But, I am definitely the EXCEPTION to the rule. If I wasn't such a freak w/ germs, I'd probably love it. icon_smile.gif

I think it's a great idea! She should make sure to tell everyone what you told us though, that everything is sterilized above the state standard for each person. Because I cant say that I would jump at the chance if I didnt know that! Knowing that though, absolutely! Like the previous person said, women love to be pampered!! icon_smile.gif

I think it is a good idea. It is great that she is licensed and that can be used as a selling point to the party attendees (that would ease my mind about the sterilization procedures - if she is licensed, she should be sterilizing, using disposable tools as appropriate). It would be fun!

I would just be concerned about timing - would she be able to get up to 6 pedicures done in that time frame?

I think it is a good idea...but I wouldn't go. I can't stand for anyone to touch my feet. But that is just me.
