Looking through the gallaries at all the wonderful cakes I've also noticed different cake boards. What do you all use and what do you cover them with? Are these boards something that you leave with the customers/friends and they get tossed or something that you use over and over?
Currently I am using the card-board boards from Wilton. I double up if the cake is large, taping with masking tape or duct tape then wrapping in foil. Unless it's a really really big heavy duty one I've purchased last minute at the grocery store I leave it with the customer, if it's a friend or family member and it's a heavy duty one I request they save it until my next visit.
After the first of the year my husband is going to be making me hard wood boards out of plywood or something lol. I will then cover them in contact paper, and then in foil, these will have instructions on the back with my name and address and phone number and return instructions, also upon delivery/drop off they will be instructed to dispose of the foil wrap only and save the board for my next visit or return it as soon as possible.
I also use those plastic veggie trays from the grocery store deli department. They come with a hard plastic bottom and a flexible plastic lid, both reuseable with a quick wash in the sink. The heavy duty bottom is excellent! I use these mainly for cupcakes and I don't wrap them in anyhting, the base is black and has a slight design on it but sometimes I will take a doily or something and lay on the bottom for presentation purposes only. ![]()
