What can you tell me about the Tall Tier Cake Stand
http://www.wilton.com/store/site/product.cfm?id=3E30BB93-475A-BAC0-52555DC793C1FEC1

and these:

Which is easier? More sturdy? I bought the 5" set of the second product, but haven't used them yet. Too nervous!

Anyone use either of these? Sorry to bump, it was getting to the bottom of the page and I am hoping for an answer.

Tall tier stand (with center pillars right?) is great, I have this...the only downside is when transporting, the plates do not lie flat so you have to construct something like foam with holes in the center to carry your plates. Otherwise I think its great.

I have used the center tier cake stand. Its pretty strong. I dont like the plates that it uses though I think they are ugly but then again it might be just what your looking for. I use dit on my Ortiz cake but had the cakes go right to the edge of the plate. Take a look.
Good Luck

How does the tall tier stand work? Does the center piece go thru the middle of the cakes?

Jen, it comes with a cake corer to cut out a place for the stand.

Will this hold heavy cakes or cheesecake?

Thanks Zmama...I've seen it at Michael's, but never really looked at it close.

I use the spiked pillars with the clear separator plates and I really like them. You don't have to worry about doweling the tiers (that aren't stacked). Just have to make sure you mark your cake properly. I've used these 4 or 5 times without problem and they transport easily...but make sure you put something under them in the car to keep them from slipping.
