I have seen some really cute cakes with the quilled flowers and whatnot - is there any instruction anywhere on how to do this? I am very interested, if anyone's willing to help. =0)

Thanks!

I like that look too! I haven't tried it yet, but Collete Peter's book, "Cakes to Dream On" has a how-to illustration on page 234. The cake the instructions are for is on page 31.

I hate for this to sound stupid ... but have you ever quilled before?
If you have then it is about the same.
If not, I'll tell you how I have done it...
~first use a mix of fondant and gumpaste (perhaps more gumpaste than 50%)
~roll it very thin and cut out thin strips. (I have used a pasta machine and liked that the strips were very uniform.)
~ on wax paper, coil the strips in different shapes following the general rules of quiling (google a search on quilling and you can get a general idea.)
~ one tip that works well is to coil the pieces a bit tight let them sit for a moment and then uncoil until it is what you want.
~let them dry and then place on cake!!
Rememeber that the strips will dry fast so make sure that you cover the ones you're not working with.
And ~~ this takes a great deal of time so practice and plan accordingly!
Hope this helps!!
