I'm freaking out! So far i have only made cakes for family and only over the past few months have they been real cakes (not just a box with canned frosting) So my MIL askes me to do a cake tor a lady moving away. The day after she says that all the ladies were asking what i charge and whatnot! So i thought i better figure that out myselfe. And by that very evening i had my first order. It's for a gentlemans 90th birthday and he is a competitive swimmer so they want a cake like a lane pool with some fondant figures. The cake is 14x28. I had to go buy a pan i never had one that big before.
Anyway i was so psyched i had to blab! icon_biggrin.gif

...put the teacher on the pond in the boat catching the tennis ball at one end icon_lol.gif (couldn't resist icon_lol.gif )

Just curious because I'm in the same "boat", what were you thinking of charging?

No - just kidding!!! icon_smile.gif I found it really neat that someone posted the same line of topic when I did and I think I know how your feeling: nervous, excited, nervous....
How are you going to figure your cost though?

I know that a lot of people charge ingredients x 3 for a total cake price. I know starting out I didn't feel comfortable doing that, plus I feel like with every cake I am still learning and improving my skills.

I would suggest use the formula and then look at it and decide if it is a reasonable amount for your skill level. I know I always chop the price and am getting better about charging more. Most times people don't have a problem with it because it is "custom designed" just for them.

Good luck and let us know how it goes! Don't forget to post your picture for the rest of us addicts!!! icon_wink.gificon_wink.gificon_wink.gif
